I came across this (short) interview with Thomas Vander Wal today and thought it was highly relevant to the project I’m beginning with PARC:

Here are my scribbled notes on the 2–minute interview:
how are taxonomies & folksonomies evolving in the enterprise?
--lots of people are trying to figure out how to best name objects for organization and refinding purposes, where things in the path have been, scarcity, etc.
–searching for the experts within enterprises to help–but also important to get individual perspectives on object identity, categorization, naming, etc–must take advantage of context to validate the company taxonomy, find gaps internally, then augment (with direction from “above”)
–need some type of flow between taxonomy & folksonomy (starting with folksonomy first, later aggregate over the organization, build back to taxonomy)
–give power in individual to refind info and put it in their own context–one company that has taken this approach has gone from “good to great to utterly fantastic”: Honeywell
–they use the folksonomy approach (using the social bookmarking tool connectbeam, which Vander Wal thinks is probably the current best tool for functionality for the enterprise)
