“Wikipedia is the best thing ever. Anyone in the world, can write anything they want about any subject. So you know you are getting the best possible information.”
–Michael Scott, “The Office”
In fact, we all secretly believe Wikipedia is the best thing ever, but there is a debate over the validity and accuracy of the information, precisely because “anyone in the world can write anything they want about any subject.”
The Augmented Social Cognition group at PARC just released a research prototype, WikiDashboard, intended to help users visualize and analyze edit patterns on Wikipedia articles. The visualizations are embedded at the top of Wikipedia pages to provide social transparency, and increase awareness, about the nature of revisions/edits on each Wikipedia page.
